AND THE WINNERS ARE… (plus news on Kogi 2012)

December 13th, 2011

…ALL OF YOU.

But if we’re to get real, here, the big winners are HAWTHORNE (far and away), EL SEGUNDO, K-TOWN, PICO RIVERA, DTOWN LA/MIRACLE MILE,  SILVERLAKE/LOSFELIZ, TORRANCE and GARDENA.

And the baby winners happen to be BELLFLOWER, NO HO ARTS DISTRICT, LA CRESCENTA, INLAND EMPIRE, SANTA ANA, ANAHEIM, HOLLYWOOD (Amoeba) and CARSON.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone that voted.  (( BIG  H U G )) ^__^  SGV, La Mirada, Huntington Beach — I’ve got nothing but love for you.  I was expecting for maybe a dozen comments but was absolutely FLOORED that there’ve been well over 87 votes and messages of affection — and counting!  It’s been a while since we’ve rolled to some of these neighborhoods, so it was a real trip down memory lane to have some of you come back and remind me of all the little pockets where we first started.  Even for places like La Puente and Placentia, which didn’t garner too many votes, I’ll see what I can do.  The fact that you let us know that you miss us makes us miss you right back.

Yes, yes, we love and adore and miss y’all, too — as is evidenced by my Kogi-esque, haphazardly efficient means of tallying all the votes:

They say that writers and doctors tend to have equally illegible handwriting.  One would think the Asian in me would grant my penmanship some cutely rotund vowels and bubble-filled consonants, but alas, I was somehow granted handwriting that only a mother could love.

Mostly it’s my ineptitude with wordpress that prevents me from installing a legit-looking poll where everyone gets to vote based on a select group of cities, but I’m kinda glad it was all relegated to the comments box, because that’s where everyone’s love really comes through.

If I could hand-deliver some Kogi grub to each and every one of you who gave us a little love in the comments section, I would, I really would.  But for now THIS shall have to suffice.

You would think I’d be tired of the blackjack quesadilla by now, but it still calls my name every time I walk on by.  And vice versa, too.

Oh, and for those who’ve missed it, a message from Papi himself:

There’s a reason why we recently designated the Alibi Room as the Kogi Test Kitchen.  No worries, we’ll still hold onto the classics in 2012 — the kimchi quesadillas, the tacos, the burritos, the blackjack — but the game’s changing up with the overall Kogi menu for a kitchen or two.  In terms of food, a part of Kogi’s going to take a little detour through the back alleys of Papi Chulo’s mind and come back with a few surprises.

As for the big winners (mostly the South Bay), let me know in the comments section (so that I can keep things haphazardly organized) if you want Kogi LUNCH or Kogi DINNER or Kogi LATE DINNER.  So HAWTHORNE, EL SEGUNDO, K-TOWN, PICO RIVERA, DTOWN LA/MIRACLE MILE,  SILVERLAKE/LOSFELIZ, TORRANCE and GARDENA. BELLFLOWER, NO HO ARTS DISTRICT, LA CRESCENTA, INLAND EMPIRE, SANTA ANA, ANAHEIM, HOLLYWOOD (Amoeba) and CARSON.  Let me know in the comments WHICH MEAL YOU PREFER — LUNCH or DINNER.  And if DINNER, then EARLY din-din or LATE din-din.  Especially on weekdays.  1st, 2nd, 3rd choice.  I know these are a lot of directions.  (( H U G ))

Love and tacos forever,
Aliiiiiiiiiiiiiice

P.S. My favorite track of the moment is “Bestia” by Hello Seahorse!  They had me at Hello.  The Seahorse was just the icing on the cake.  Wait for about 49 seconds into the track, because it then starts to REALLY pick up.  Enjoy!

YAY – La Cresenta, I say late din-din.. Nothing like some late night KOGI.. Then again, La Cresenta doesn’t stay up that late so you may get a bit lonely being the only truck out late at night.. maybe an early dinner would work better on your behalf . Heck, LUNCH would be good too ! I’m down for Kogi anytime of day !

I recommend Anaheim/Fullerton/Placentia Kogi spots for lunch, and Whittier/Puente Hills for dinner. It’s so sad that you guys don’t come by the LA/OC border areas that often; last year I had at least weekly accessibility to Kogi, now I’m glad if I can make it out once a month. Thank you for providing this wonderful service anyway. I’m quite the Kogi fan!
