INTRODUCING…our new tofu taco!
August 26th, 2009Okay dudes — in the beginning there was the tofu taco. For an omnivorous creature such as myseLf, I wasn’t its biggest fan. When it came to choosing between vaniLLa-white cubes of curdLed soybeans and juicy, marinated cuts of griLLed shortrib, the meat aLways won hands-down, no contest.
UNTIL NOW.
At the behest for some tofu fiends jeaLous of aLL the extra love our shortrib, spicy pork and chicken were getting, Chef Roy decided to tinker around with our soyLicious bLocks of bLandness and figured out a way to reaLLy amp up the fLavor.
I BRING YOU…

…our new tofuLicious addition to the menu.
We give the tofu an extra long soak in some chiLis, garLic and citrus before having it char just a whiLe longer on the griLL and then – SURPRISE! – we top that shizz with our new saLsa verde.
DERICIOUSNESS.
I might have to momentariLy cheat on my reguLar dosage of spicy pork.

I love the tofu tacos! The tofu is spiced just right lightly grilled to perfection! As a matter of fact, I am jonesin’ for one right now! This evening cannot come quickly enough!

Working on the trucks, it’s hard to resist eating the food at the end of a long shift. I’ve luckily got a Kogi shot that makes me immune to the cravings… unfortunately, it doesn’t cover the new Tofu burritos. I’ve eaten two every day since we started making them like this… drool…

That’s great to see the tofu taco revamped with more flavor. However, it’d be nice to see some separation in the cooking process. In other words, is there anyway not to cook the tofu alongside the meat (most vegetarians I know are not a big fan of meat-soaked veggie tacos)? Last time I asked it seemed this was still the case. Still… can’t wait to try.

I just heard from by buddy that your tofu taco isn’t really vegetarian because the tortilla has lard in it. is it true? and is there an alternative to using tortilla made from pork fat?
