Korean Short Ribs

November 24th, 2008

This is our signature taco. We get the best trimmings of short ribs we can find, let it swim in our own special marinade, and chop it nice and small so the flavors just dance on your taste buds. Once on the grill, the fat melts away to create that soft and tender texture everyone loves and the sugars just caramelize to give the meat that deep and savory flavor. This is the Kogi crowd favorite.

All out tacos are topped with:

  • sesame-chili salsa roja
  • julienne romaine lettuce and cabbage tossed in Korean chili-soy vinaigrette
  • cilantro-green onion-lime relish
  • crushed sesame seeds
  • sea salt
  • garnished with lime wedge, orange wedge and red radish wedge

I’m Korean, and live in Korea

in Korea there are no food like that Kogi

the cook said this is Korean style PoJangMaJa (포창마차)

but that is not a Korean style PoJangMaca.

and also PojangMaca is a Japanese style store

    not a Korean…

when i see the food that is totally Maxican food

    not a Korean..

Hey cook, why you tell the false to American who have no background knowledge about Asian style.

why you steal a other country’s culture.

you useing a PoJangMaCa( Japanese stlye store) and Mexican food, there is no connection with Korean things.

if you argue with Korean style, talk to me useing with Korean.

  • Maria
    January 26th, 2009

Please bring this to New York!!!
    and to 강승태

I don’t know where u got that dumb false info you alone, or maybe from some wrong korean media, but no body says it’s authentic Korean. So what are you arguing about?
It’s obviously fusion of Korean+Mexican. two different culture food combined together in case you never had fusion.

PoJangMacha is a Korean word. not sure if it was adopted from Japan long ago, but it is nation-wide popular korean street culture, even the food they serve is completely different with those in Japan. you would be a rare person to call it Japanese.

You’re like calling Kimchi not authentic Korean because the red pepper powder didn’t historically originate from Korea.

Such shame idea to argue here. It only proves that you’re uncultured in post globalization

Kogi: 고마워요 –You guys are amazing. I had the Galbi-style tacos last night, and I loved them so much, I am driving across town for more tonight! :D I think the idea of fusing Korean with Mexican food not only is delicious, but it reflects Los Angeles as the melting pot of the west coast. question – do u guys do anything to the tortilla? the first i had it, the tortilla had this awesome texture – slightly crunchy and hard but not too hard…kinda seemed like it was lightly fried or put on the grill..the second time the tortilla was just plain jane.

  • Aliiiiiiiiiiiiice
    February 13th, 2009

We do griLL our tortiLLas before serving tacos. You probabLy caught the last one during a rush.

Sometimes we have to make the decision to either fry or die when the crowds get that huge and seem superbLy hungry. But the standard tacos shouLd include gentLy fried tortiLLas.

ApoLogies, we are aLso training new crew on the truck, too, which may aLso account for forgetfuLness when there is a massive line of peopLe.

  • Aliiiiiiiiiiiiice
    February 13th, 2009

Oh – and if you want your tacos a certain way, feeL free to order them that way. Just know that wiLL cause a littLe bump in the wait, though, as any speciaL orders tend to create a rippLe effect when the fLow breaks.

To make it easier on the crew, I wouLd say to save any super speciaL requests (like, “extra onions, no saLad, mix pork with beef”) for when the lines aren’t out the door. If it’s something as simpLe as “no hot sauce” that’s totaLLy cooL.

  • david
    February 17th, 2009

    강승태…

You said you are Korean, but your Korean pronounciation is wrong.
I think you are not Korean. You Must be Japanese who live in Korea.
And maybe you can speak and write in Korean well.

Many Japanese are jealous of Korean Culture, and I know many Japanese such as you. You’re really pathetic.

And another reason why you’re not Korean is…
You emphasized “Japanese Style” excessively. If you are really Korean, this behavior is very strange.

I don’t know why do you want to insist on argueing Asian Culture obstinately. I can’t understand you. Go back to your home in Japan.

You have a fan base in Las Vegas. We’ve been monitoring your twitters. A group of us are coming to LA this Saturday (April 4th) just to eat from the traveling Korean BBQ Truck. Will you be @The Brig in Venice on Saturday?

    Heeeeeeere’s our scheduLe for Saturday:

9:30PM-Midnight@Eagle Rock -4372 Eagle Rock Blvd

Verde – 9PM-2AM@The Brig – Abbot Kinney and Palm in Venice

So YES, we wiLL be at The Brig, but you might want to come earLy at 9PM, JUST in case we run out of food (like we did in Torrance.) Just remember, it’s aLL about good times, so come with lawn chairs, beers and board games in case the wait gets a bit long.

OR if you want a chance at our expanded menu, you might want to check us out at The ALibi, since it’s open Mon-Sat 6PM-midnight and, so far, has not run out of food.

OMGZ – thanks so much for making the trek out from Vegas, dudes! If we ever mosey on over to the city of sin, we shaLL let you know for sure. Best of luck to y’aLL and it’s so supremeLy fLattering to here we’ve made your list of pLaces to visit when out in LA!

One last word of advice. Next time you decide to degrade someone in writing…..use spell check. No such word “argueing” in the english vocabulary.

    Heard about the food.

With me being of Mexican heritage and growing up in K-Town all my life, this sounds like something I would REALLY love. I’m kind of jealous I didn’t come up with it myself!!

I plan on picking food for several friends this week but have two questions.

1)We have no idea how much the food is. Any info on price so I can get these guys to pitch in?

    2) Also heard out there that there was a limit on what you could purchase. Is this true?

You came to our parking and now all of a sudden you’re planning to leave because you came late… it’s not our fault the city had to have a Lakers parade. what’s up with that? Every division who would spend the money were ready for some short rib tacos… this is so disappointing. While you were stuck in traffic, we had over 100 people waiting. I don’t care how great your food is, that’s just bad service and commitment with your destinations. | (

Your Azul truck sells the Blackjack Quesadilla for $5.
But, your Roja truck sells it for $7. What’s up with that!?
Do you jack up the price just one week later?
Also, your tacos are $2. Is that for just one piece or for two
pieces. I asked for four orders of your tacos and I just got
four pieces. What sort of business are you running!!?

  • Uncle Roy
    August 31st, 2009

    John
    Sorry about any confusion.
The blackjack quesadilla is $7 due to the pork belly.
The Azul truck must have just made a mistake.
Our tacos are $2 a piece. So 4 orders is 4 tacos.
Regarding your question, we are running an honest street taco truck and making mistakes once in awhile.

The Short Ribs are pork or beef?
    I can’t eat pork…..so what should I try? =D
I’m visiting LA and can’t wait to try your food!

  • John
    September 2nd, 2009

    Chef Roy,

The price on your Blackjack Quesadilla varies from Kogi truck to
Kogi truck. On one Friday evening, you were selling it for $5.
That was when you were parked in Echo Park, in front of A1 Grocery Warehouse. On the following week, on a Tuesday evening, at the same
location, the Blackjack Quesadilla was priced at $7.
Why are you guys ripping off your customers!!? I asked the Latino
guy who was taking the order about the price increase. He says
that it’s always been $7. THAT’S A BIG LIE!!! Roy, you were selling it for $5. If you want to continue selling those, I suggest
you keep the price at $5.

    John

  • Uncle Roy
    September 3rd, 2009

    John
The last thing I am trying to do is rip you off for $2.
The price on the blackjack is $7 due to all the ingredients inside and out.
If there was a price mistake it may have been just that, a mistake.
We are not trying to pull the wool over anyones’ eyes for $2.
I am still trying to make the food as cheap as possible.
The amount of pork we put inside forces me to sell it for $7.
I can change the dish and sell it for $5 if you all want, just let me know.
Please believe me that this is not a calculated strategy to rip you off, just a mis-calculation.
So to all that read this: blackjack quesadilla = $7. If price is to high I will change recipe, just let me know.

    I will listen, promise….

    To Mr. Kang:

I sense a little jealousy maybe because of the fact that these guys thought of a great idea and you haven’t. They do use Korean ingredients in their marinades. There is a connection. The truth is, Korean fusion foods are everywhere I know this because I live in Korea.

Maybe you should talk to the people at Lotteria, KFC, Macdonalds and all of the Pojiangmachas there that serve Bulgogi hamburgers, Cheese Ttuckboki, Italian Risotto with Kochujiang, etc, etc…

Maybe you should talk about to all of the Koreans in Korean trying to pass off Korean food as Western fusion food before trying to insult these guys. They’ll have a closer to connect to both types of cuisine more than you ever will.

    December 22nd, 2009

I’m very sorry for your disappointment. Due to the holiday weekend, we are unfortunately working a little short on staff. Traditionally, the week of Christmas has been slow with companies in crunch mode trying to make deadlines and transplants catching flights to go back home, so we were quite surprised to see such a large amount of people waiting for us in Glendale.

To those of you who came out for us this afternoon, thank you. For your efforts, we will do everything we can to prepare for our next visit to Glendale.
